Best Use of ARCHER Competition

EPSRC Logo

The Best Use of ARCHER Competition will recognise the best work on ARCHER by post-doctoral and PhD student researchers.

Prizes to fund travel between UK and USA

Key Details

  • Competition Opens: 30th March 2017
  • Submission Deadline: Now closed
  • Judging: June 2017
  • Prize: Ten prizes of £3,000 each, to be used for travel between UK and USA.
  • Projects/travel of winners completed by 31 March 2018
  • Open to: Post-Doctoral students, PhD students working on ARCHER within EPSRC's remit.

Best Use of ARCHER

The ARCHER service facilitates high quality science from a broad range of disciplines across EPSRC's and NERC's remits. The outcome is science that generates significant societal impact, improving health and overall quality of life in the UK and beyond. This science influences policy and impacts on the UK's economy.

This competition aims to promote and encourage interactions, networking and collaboration between HPC centres, individuals or groups in the UK and USA. The focus is on enabling new collaborations to occur and encouraging PhD students and post-doctoral researchers to showcase their science and scientific impact.

Entries should be from post-doctoral researchers and/or PhD students and should describe the outputs and impacts of their current scientific work on ARCHER. Entry should describe the completed work and the future direction of potential new work. The work described should focus on research based around using ARCHER, either as a tool or as an end in itself (for example, software development). Current work does not necessarily need to have been funded by EPSRC, however the main thrust of the work must lie within EPSRC's remit. Proposed work would ideally be able to demonstrate or justify impacts or benefits from interactions with the USA.

Their work on ARCHER must be current or recent, having ended no more than 6 months prior to the closing date of 18th May 2017.

Submission details

Entries should be submitted electronically by email to impact@archer.ac.uk by completing the Best Use of ARCHER - entry form.

In addition to the completed submission form giving details of your work, we also welcome supporting evidence in the form of:

  • Images: photographs and/or computer generated images relating to your work
  • Videos or animations
  • Diagrams, figures
  • Any other demonstration of the importance, value and novelty of your work

This can be submitted as attachments to the email or, if larger than 10 MB, as a link to the resource file e.g. a share link to an online storage such as DropBox, OneDrive or /shared folder on ARCHER. Please don't hesitate to contact us to discuss the best way to submit your files if you are unsure.
